When you have power over someone, it’s important to acknowledge it. If you don’t acknowledge that you have power, it’s hard to examine your use of it. If you’re not paying attention to how you’re using your power, you will come to abuse it, and you won’t notice.
This makes me think about all that bullshit about “the man is the head but the woman is the neck” and “behind every great man is a great woman” and “henpecked husbands.” The idea being that women are *really* the ones with the power so men don’t have to address their privilege.
