Hi, I don’t know if this is the right place to ask this, but I’ve been thinking on getting a weighted blanket for a while.
The thing is, there are so many options (filler, outside material, etc.) and since I always find it hard to trust my own judgement, I can’t seem to be able to pick a…
I made mine, using the poly pellets sold for filling stuffed animals and muslin. I went the muslin route so I could make a separate, washable cover. (I have read that polyfill is washable, but my blanket weighs 14 pounds dry and I don’t know if the machine could withstand it.)
There are several different sets of instructions online, and it only requires you to be able to sew a straight seam, so it’s doable even if you’re new to sewing machines and/or would prefer to use one of the quiet old-school treadle machines to the noisier electric ones.
I’ve washed my 21lb blanket in a washer. It was a laundromat/apartment building kind of washer though, not a house kind of washer.
