So there’s this dynamic:

Autistic person: The door is open!

Other person: I *know* that. It’s hot in here.

Autistic person: The door is open!

Other person: I already explained to you that it’s hot in here!

Autistic person: The door is open!

Other…

A lot of people need to understand this.

I like this, but i’ve never seen this work quite this well.

I have, actually. Often. It’s partly a matter of practice, and of getting to know one another well enough that you can ask the right questions.

But often, yes, it’s a lot more complicated. (And actually, so is the first part of the dynamic – it often gets a lot longer and a lot angrier than three repetitions.) It’s a skill, and not always an easy one to acquire – but it’s really, really worth it.
