I think there are still some considerations to make.  I agree that these conversations are important to have, and that “in public” doesn’t present a problem per se.  However, if you’re in an environment specifically set up for children, you should avoid topics that aren’t appropriate for that age group.  For example - talking about sex while picking up a child from day care or while sitting in a playground watching your child play is not acceptable.  What’s appropriate while sitting in a coffee shop is not the same as what’s appropriate waiting in line for pictures with Santa.

For instance, if you are a woman, some people might be offended if you mention your wife in front of children. They may act as though it’s the same as describing explicit sex acts.

People who think that are wrong, and it’s ok not to comply with their views on the matter.
