Similar to the touch wood phrase, a lot of older people in Ireland (and maybe elsewhere) will say “please God” at the end of a sentence. Like “I’ll see you again soon, please God”.

Yes, and I feel like there are a lot of other version of that. The one that comes to mind is “God willing”. But there are others too.

If you ever hear a Muslim or Arabic-speaking person say “insha’Allah” or similar, that means the same thing, and it’s a really common thing to say regarding any sort of discussion of plans or of the future.

eg.: “Next year, we’re going to visit family, insha’Allah.”  or “Insha’Allah, I will graduate next year.”
